Mitsubishi Electric acquires ICONICS UK ltd

The Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has announced the acquisition of Dudley based ICONICS UK Ltd. It first acquired its US parent ICONICS Inc. in 2019 to strengthen its global software-development capabilities.

ICONICS UK sells supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software and develops related cloud applications. It also has a Software as a Service (SaaS) business and a staff of 56. Their software combined with programmable logic controllers and other automation products monitor and gather data from production sites.

ICONICS has been developing and offering competitive software products for various business sectors, including industrial automation. It enjoys extensive established technology and knowledge in developing industrial software for SCADA, IoT, mobile, analytics and cloud solutions.

The demand for data is increasing due to IoT technology in manufacturing industries. Mitsubishi aims to enhance its software products and to use this acquisition to strengthen its development capabilities to support e-F@ctory. ICONICS brings the engineering skills, expertise, and technology to extend Mitsubishi’s e-F@ctory and edge-computing product lineup.

By combining these with Mitsubishi Electric’s factory-automation technology, they plan to leverage ICONICS UK’s technology and know-how to establish a Circular Digital-Engineering business model for factory-automation solutions that optimise factory equipment and systems.

Going forward, Mitsubishi Electric will provide several types of software products to meet data-utilisation needs in manufacturing industries and thereby contribute to improved manufacturing productivity and quality.

ICONICS UK’s user-experience cloud-related technical assets, and engineers will support the development of integrated solutions that collect on-site production data and then reproduce, analyse, and apply the data in digital space. Benefits will include improved productivity and quality as well as reduced total cost of ownership TCO.
