In developing their new Q2V space saving VSD, Omron Automation paid special attention to the needs of OEMS. Features like integrated filter, side by side mounting, screwless terminals and coated PCBs reduce installation time and extend operating life. The close mounting offered by the Q2V space saving VSD reduces enclosure sizes without suffering from derating due to temperature.

The Q2V is a series of compact high efficiency drives for almost any AC motor type up to 30kW. The drives combine easy operation with high-efficiency control to reduce maintenance requirements. Using advanced control algorithms, they increase efficiency by up to 6% for asynchronous motors and up to 2% for permanent magnet motors, compared to conventional drives.

Features like sensor-less tuning EZ Vector control for pumps and fans allow the Q2V to drive efficient motors in the most efficient way. Further energy-saving functions for reduced and variable torque loads automatically optimize energy for energy savings up to 50%.

Onboard communications include Serial and Modbus/TCP. EtherCat, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET and POWERLINK

Wide range of motors and applications

The new Q2V space saving VSD also provides flexible and energy-efficient motor control for induction (IM), permanent magnet (PM) and synchronous reluctance (SynRM) motors. Additionally, the Q2V comes with a dual rating, including the heavy duty and normal duty options. This also offers application flexibility by enabling the same inverter to drive motors with different ratings depending on the load characteristics.

Power ratings are

200V 1Ø        o.1 to 4 kW

200V 3Ø 0.1 to 22 kW

400V Ø 0.37 to 30 kW

Improved installation and setup

The Q2V offers simplified and convenient commissioning with all inputs and outputs having screwless terminals. Hardware installation is also simplified by built-in EMC filters and STO (Safety Torque Off) function, integrated braking transistor. Moreover, 50°C calibration temperature allows side by side mounting without derating for smaller cabinet size. The benefit here is cost-effectiveness due to less wiring effort.

An intelligent application set-up wizard guides user through the parameter settings allowing customisation of drives for each application. It ensures faster  setup times and avoids setting incorrect parameters by forgetting any important setup details. The Q2app allows drives to be setup and monitored via a mobile device.

An optional remote keypad provides extra data acquisition, allowing users to prevent potential failures and avoid unplanned downtime. With is, the Q2V can trace and record data to a local SD card or provide the data to IT systems via Omron NX/NJ controllers.

Omron’s Q2dev is A graphic development tools allow them to develop programs and maintain the know-how inhouse. The PC based tool offers drag and drop programming of function block and connections and I/O. It also allows the programming od drives without the power connected to reduce offline commissioning time.

Robust space saving VSD construction

The robust construction of Q2V offers an operating life of 10 years at temperatures up to 50 °C without maintenance.  Finally, coated PCB boards are standard to protect the electronics from dust and humidity
