Schneider Electric provides DTM for Altivar Process

Schneider Electric provides DTM for Altivar Process.

Schneider Electric has added a full featured Device Type Manager (DTM) to its ATV600 process drives, to manage operate in an FDT system. The DTM offers functions for configuration, commissioning, maintenance and diagnostic.

FDT/DTM technology standardises the communication interface between field devices and host systems. The DTM contains a uniform structure for managing drive access parameters. Using FDT/DTM technology it is possible to configure, control, and diagnose Altivar Process drives directly in SoMove software.  Easy to use menus help to quickly setup the drive, and include functions for pump applications. Extensive diagnostic capabilities enhance troubleshooting and reduce downtime.

The Altivar Process drive is an IP 21, IP 54 or IP 55 frequency inverter for three-phase synchronous and asynchronous motors from 0.75 kW.  It designed for the process type applications, such as: water and waste; F&B; oil & gas; mining and metals.

A wide range of integrated function enable Altivar Process drives to improve equipment performance and reduce operating costs by optimizing energy consumption and user comfort. They offer instant reaction if pump efficiency drops thanks to the embedded pump monitoring.

Energy Saving

Altivar Process drives help to optimize power consumption by reducing the RMS input current for the same load by offering THDI < 48% for 80 to 100% load, which is used to maintain an optimum power factor on the most common operating range.

Altivar Process drive’s “stop & go” function can reduce its power consumption by up to 60% during system stop phases by disabling some functions automatically (the power section, fans, backlighting, etc). On a system restart request, the Altivar Process drive takes less than 2 seconds to restart the motor.  The “stop and go” function can be activated and deactivated in the drive parameters.

Additional functionality provided by the embedded digital services includes:

– Embedded power measurement and energy dashboard

– Embedded process monitoring and control

– Embedded pump curves (easy to set 5 points curve)

– Asset monitoring & protection

– Seamless integration with embedded Ethernet

What is a Device Type Manager (DTM)?

A Device Type Manager (DTM) is part of the FDT standard that is a software component for a device that contains the device-specific data, functions and logic elements for the ability to work with intelligent field device management FDT/DTM.

Provided by the manufacturer, the DTM provides a unified structure for accessing device parameters, configuring and operating the devices, and diagnosing problems. The DTM also contains FDT-compliant interfaces to enable communication with the connected system or tool.

The FDT technology standardises the communication interface between field devices and the system environment.  The FDT technology is independent of the communication protocol used, so the user is free to choose the unit to be used and the control system used. FDT makes it possible to address any unit via any system using any protocol.
