New Mitsubishi iQ-F replaces FX series PLCs.

Mitsubishi Electric’s world leading  MELSEC-FX Series PLCs has been reborn as the MELSEC iQ-F Series.  From stand alone use to networked system application, MELSEC iQ-F enables compact PLC users to compete at all levels of machine building without migrating to larger models. The first new model is the FX5U.

Offering an enhanced high speed bus, expanded built-in functions, advanced SSCNETIII/H support and improved engineering environment. Program and parameters are set with the GXWorks3 engineering software.

Hardware configuration is similar to the FX series, with the CPU module offering an all-in-one main unit with power supply, CPU and I/Os. Built-in features include high-speed counters, positioning outputs, Ethernet, and SD card slot.

Backwards compatible

According to Mitsubishi Electric UK, the FX5U is further extended using additional I / O modules available with and without built-in power supply and in various input / output configurations. This includes options for analogue inputs and outputs, temperature sensor inputs, and temperature control. FX3 series analogue intelligent function modules can also be connected.

The high speed counter and other FX3 series special function modules can also be connected.  These include: simple motion module supporting SSCNETIII/H pulse output modules; RS-232, RS-485, RS-422 communication modules, and FX3 series CC-Link master module can also be connected; Bus conversion module; power supply and battery line-up.

Simple troubleshooting

The FX5 offers a range of troubleshooting functions to speed system set-up, increase system availability and reduce maintenance requirements. Comprehensive debugging functions are included, along with improved diagnostics functions. Simple maintenance is facilitated through improved diagnostics including error history, hardware monitor, SD card for logging & tracing functions, automatic system recognition and several program debugging functions.

Security functions

To protect your intellectual property FX5 comes with several security functions like privilege based program access and program on SD card with copy protection password.
