The latest ABB industrial drives, the ACS880-01 series, are designed for maximum energy saving and productivity. The built-in energy calculator shows actual energy used and its value in real money, together with saved kWh and MWh, and CO₂ reduction to help users fine-tune their processes to ensure optimum energy use. The energy optimiser function also ensures the maximum torque per ampere, reducing energy drawn from the supply.

Tracking the energy use of a process is simplified by the drive’s new control panel which features and intuitive high resolution display for easier navigation design. An integrated USD port allows easy connection of the Drive Composer PC tool which offers fast start-up, commissioning and monitoring.

The drive also contains the very latest 4th generation DTC motor control core, making the drive all compatible with any motor available in the market today, asynchronous, permanent magnet, and synchronous reluctance (SynRM) are all controllable by the same  software platform. The architecture also allows the drive to interface across all major fieldbus protocols as well as remote monitoring tools.

The new drive is available in the power range 0.55 to 250kW and a voltage range of 380 to 550V.  The voltage range is planned to be extended.  The ACS880 is designed to control a wide range of applications such as extruders, cranes. Winches, winders, conveyors compressors, pumps and fans.

The drive is offered with a general purpose IP21 enclosure as standard.  For damp and dusty environments an IP55 version is available within the same footprint.  The range of accessories includes EMC filters, resolvers, encoders, I/O options, and brake resistors. Other options include a wide range of safety features, speed feedback interfaces
