To improve usability, the Mitsubishi FR-D700 inverter is designed for a service life of over 10 years by addressing the two devices most likely to cause failure: capacitors and cooling fans.

The D700 from Mitsubishi Electric UK is an ultra compact inverter drive range for motors up to 2.2kw at 220V , and 7.5kw at 400v.  Simple and safe to install and operate, the compact design includes simplified cabling, an integrated LED display.  The range includes an integrated emergency stop function and typical applications are feeder and conveyor drives, machining tools or gate and door drives.

Design life of over ten years

In the D700 series the design life of the capacitors has been extended to 10 years by the adoption of a capacitor that will endure 5000 hours at 105°C surrounding air temperature.

Cooling fans with sealed bearings and special lubricating grease are used, and the life of the fan can be further extended utilising its ON/OFF control. A fan speed detector will output an alarm in the event of a failure.

The flow of cooling air comes into contact only with the heat sinks and not electronic components, ensuring that no dust or dirt can collect on the components.

The circuit boards are protected against aggressive environments with single or double layer conformal coating – another feature that ensures longer service life.

Leading life check function

Degrees of deterioration of main circuit capacitor, control circuit capacitor, and inrush current limit circuit can be monitored. Capacity of the main circuit capacitor can be measured by setting parameter at a stop and turning the power from off to on. Measuring the capacity enables alarm to be output.

Trouble can be avoided with the self-diagnostic alarm to give an output when the life span is near. If any main circuit capacitor, control circuit capacitor, inrush current restriction circuit or cooling fan reaches the output level, an alarm is output.
