Omron MX2 and RX drives with built-in PLC capability
The Omron MX2 and RX inverter drive series have a powerful built-in logic programming functionality. This PLC function allows users to develop stand-alone applications without any external controller, saving cost and panel space.
The Programming tool is a function of the intuitive CX-Drive, which is also used for drive configuring and commissioning. An application can be created in either flow chart or text editor formats. Programs can be made with up to 1000 lines of code and with 5 tasks running in parallel.
Having the inverter running a drive programming application means it can be a modular part of an overall machine design and used only as needed, thereby simplifying the design and commissioning stages. For example, it can be controlling an independent conveyor between feeder and packaging operation.
On occasions, extensive use of the PLC function will require the use of additional I/O when the on board I/O is not sufficient. The MX2 now has available an optional front mounted I/O board for drive programming applications requiring digital and analogue I/O.
Similar functionality is available for the RX inverter series , where an expansion I/O Board mounted in the inverter option slot also offers additional digital and analogue I/O points.
Typical stand-alone applications: Automatic doors, lifting tables, platform lifts, multiple pumps, index tables and grinding machines.
