OMRON demonstrates JX inverter drive energy savings on site
These days’ tough economic conditions are the norm for the UK manufacturing, and a significant cost attributed to energy spend and prices look set to rise again adding more pressure. However, cost savings can be realised by installing Omron inverter drives to suitable applications.
It is too easy to assume that everyone knows the benefits of installing VFDs for energy saving. Implementing the latest technologies means that new generation VFDs are efficient than ever and will save money on a wider range of applications. Fan & pump applications offer the most savings, but this is not always the case. Any motor application has the potential to save money and payback times or typically less than eighteen months.
Cube Law
Fitting inverter drives to ac motors controlling fans and pumps can save considerable amounts of money. This is because the load follows what is termed the cube law, which simply means any reduction in motor speed reduces the power by the same factor, cubed, i.e. the reduction in power absorbed for just a 5% reduction in motor speed is shown by (1-(0.95×0.95×0.95)*100) = 14.3% saving: 10% by more a 27% saving and 20% by almost half..
In fact the arguments are so compelling many suppliers such a 999Inverters.co.uk will loan you a drive to prove your application’s savings. Another option is lease purchase where the energy savings are used the lease and buy the installation from the saving, and so avoids capital expenditure approvals.
It really helps when users can see the cost saving benefits for themselves, so Omron has recently completed a simple demonstration panel that highlights the cost saving potential from using an inverter drive to replace a damper control on a fan system.
In addition, they show how the inverter drive can be used as part of a networked control system and linked energy monitor for data collection monitoring and trending.
The Government thinks so too
The Climate Change Levy (CCL) was introduced as part of the Government’s commitment to reduce a number of greenhouse gases.
One part of the CCL is the Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme (ECA). It is designed as an incentive for users to invest in energy saving technologies. Certain designated technologies, including Omron inverter drives qualify for tax relief in the form of an ECA.
