ABB’s new drives are all-compatible, but what does that mean?

When ABB introduced the ACS880 and the ACS580 to their UK low voltage AC drives portfolio, they called them all-compatible drives, but what do they mean?

ABB means the drives are compatible with different types of users, processes and businesses. They improve energy efficiency of motor-driven processes and help users meet their environmental goals. Most essential features are built-in as standard, simplifying drive selection, and making additional hardware unnecessary.

All-compatible means everything the user learns can be applied across all future drives technologies offered by ABB. As the full product portfolio is released, a customer will be able to use a single operator panel to program any of the drives within the family.

All compatible modules

Additionally, the field bus modules will be the same and be connected and set up the same way, and the parameter names and set up will be very similar, if not identical; the PC programming software used for set up and monitoring is the same, connection cables to the PC, the same. This commonality simplifies training, installation, start up and operation by allowing the customer to re-use their knowledge across the full ABB Drives portfolio.

During drive selection, users save time as the drives have many built-in features simplifying the selection process. A broad range of options provides easy extension to the drive’s functionality. The simplicity carries on to the drive setup and commissioning. With a state of the art user interface and drive design, installation and setup is made easy and optimal.

The idea behind all-compatible is simple: the better a drive fits to your processes, users and business and environmental goals, the faster you start enjoying the benefits it brings. For example, the ACS580 is plug-in ready to control your pumps, fans, conveyors, mixers and many other variable and constant torque applications.  Together with the ACS880 it’s the beginning of one drives portfolio using one common approach.

A new generation, all-compatible, wall-mounted drive simplifies processes and motor control with effortless efficiency. Allowing users to control a wide range of applications in different industries, with straightforward set up or commissioning.

Reduce TCO

The total cost of ownership and impact on the environment is lower with the drives ensuring your processes run efficiently and reliably. The control panel and PC tool enable users to monitor and analyse the drives. As a result, you can fine-tune them to get more out of the drives and process using less energy.
