The Schneider Electric Altivar 71 (ATV71) is a high performance AC variable speed drive series for complex high power machines requiring constant torque high-performance three-phase motor applications.

It is used for controlling asynchronous motors in sensor/sensorless flux vector control mode, although special versions are available for synchronous motors when there is speed feedback.

Altivar 71 offers ease of use by simplifying complex applications with its customisable capability. This mean it saves time and money for machine builders, panel builders and system integrators.  It is reliable in use, expandable and easy to control.  Special motor control algorithms provide best-in-class torque performance and speed regulation.

Initial start-up is simplified using a quick-start menu that incorporates macro-configurations for easy and fast commissioning.  The large, easy-to-read customisable display uses plain text words and features a navigation wheel that allows users to scroll through drop-down menus. The same user- interface and options are implemented across the range of power ratings to further simplify the operation and application for both users and integrators.

A wide range of power options is available from 0.37 to 630kW with voltage ranges:

200-240 V single-phase, 0.37 kW to 5.5 kW, IP 20 (ATV 71H….M3)

200-240 V three-phase, 0.37 kW to 75 kW, IP 20 (ATV 71HM3 and ATV 71H….M3X)

380-480 V three-phase, 0.75 kW to 500 kW, IP 20 (ATV 71H….N4)

500-600 V three-phase, 1.5 kW to 7.5 kW, IP 20 (ATV 71H….S6X)

500-690 V three-phase, 1.5 kW to 630 kW, IP 20 (ATV 71H….Y)

Network ready

The ATV 71 incorporates a Modbus / CANopen port for network connectivity and easy integration into automation systems.  using optional plug-in. These functions can be extended using communication option cards, I/O extension cards, an encoder interface or a Controller Inside programmable card. Most leading communications networks can be accommodated.

Eco-friendly and energy-saving

The Altivar 71 drive has been designed to generate significant energy savings in industrial processes, by offering options that can reduce line interference (DC chokes, line chokes, passive filters, Active Front End (AFE), etc.).

Compliance with international standards and certifications

The entire range conforms to international standards IEC/EN 61800-5-1, IEC/EN 61800-2, IEC/EN 61800-3, is UL, CSA, DNV, C-Tick, NOM 117 and GOST certified, and has been developed to meet the requirements of directives regarding the protection of the environment (RoHS, WEEE, etc.) as well as those of European Directives.

Functional safety and ATEX applications

The Altivar 71 drive features a Power Removal safety function that is designed to ensure motor stopping and prevent accidental restarts. This safety function means that the drive can be installed as part of the safety system for an Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic control system relating to the safety of a machine or industrial process.

ATV71 meets the requirements of category 3 of the ISO 1384 machine safety standard, SIL 2 of IEC/EN 61508 and standard IEC/EN 61800-5-2 which covers the functional safety requirements of power drive products. The Power Removal safety function also enables the Altivar 71 drive to offer protection for motors installed in explosive atmospheres (ATEX certification).

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)

To meet the EMC requirements, filters are incorporated in ATV 71H….M3, ATV 71….N4, ATV 71….Y and ATV 71P….N4Z.  The ATV 71H….M3X and ATV 71H….S6X drives have been designed without an EMC filter, which are available as an option.
