EtherCAT is a fast, flexible, robust and affordable communications network and the MX2 inverter can simply be added to an EtherCAT network using the optional communications card. By adopting EtherCAT as their machine control network Omron users have open connectivity with other devices of its manufacture, and those of hundreds of other UK and European device manufacturers.

EtherCAT is a high performance Ethernet-based fieldbus for automation applications which require short data update times, with low communication jitter and low hardware costs. The MX2 is specifically designed for advanced motor and machine control, offering comprehensive functionality for machine control such as positioning, speed synchronisation and logic programming.

The advanced design and algorithms provided by the MX2 provide smooth control down to zero speed, plus precise operation for fast cyclic operations and torque control capability in open loop. The MX2 is fully integrated within the Omron smart automation platform.

The MX2 inverter drive offers a cost-effective automation solution for machine applications and address machine control safety requirements in line with ISO 13849-1 Cat 3.  The drives incorporate two safety inputs and an external device monitoring (EDM) output.

The MX2 inverter drive is available in 240 V single-phase from 0.2 to 2.2kW, in 240V three-phase from 0.2 to 15kW and 415V three-phase from 0.4 to 15kW and features:

– Torque control in open loop, ideal for low to medium torque control applications

– 200% starting torque near stand-still operation (0.5Hz)

– Double rating VT 120%/1 min and CT 150%/1 min

– IM & PM motor control

– Drive Programming as standard

– 24 VDC backup supply for the control board and communications

– Built-in application functionality (i.e. brake control)
