UK water industry benefits from ACQ810 industry specific drives from ABB
The ACQ810 from ABB is an industry-specific variable speed drive for water and waste water. It uses Direct Torque Control (DTC) to optimise control and energy use in motors up to 500kW. ACQ810 was developed in consultation with water-industry experts to meet the need for industry specific control of pumping applications.
Built-in features include: multi-pump and multi-master control; automatic duty standby; pump cleaning, and level control built-in. The drives also measure flow for built-in leak detection. Other highlights include remote monitoring and diagnostics, and anti-rag pump cleaning algorithms
The ACQ810 is available in several frame sizes to optimise the packing density ensuring MCC cabinet line-ups are as compact as possible. Minimised MCC line-ups mean that compliant bids to the water industry are as small as possible whilst still complying with EMC and thermal requirements. The ACQ810 power range has been extended with the addition of new models.
The “G” frame replaces the higher powered module and extends the power rating up to 500 kW at 500 V. The module is mounted on wheels for easy manual handling. Input cables come in at the top and motor output connects to the bottom. These areas are shrouded and the shrouds remain in place when the module is removed for maintenance. This module makes it easier for MCC integrators to incorporate large powers into their cabinets for water and waste water clients.
Direct Torque Control (DTC) AC drive technology was developed by ABB and to replace traditional PWM drives in both open and closed-loop applications by providing precise torque control without the need for a feedback device. Built-in safe torque-off (STO) to SIL 3 within the AC810 can replace emergency stop contactors in traditional safety circuits, where power removal is not required.
The ACQ810 is available from 1.1 to 500kW in eight frame sizes from A to G
Frame A and B <7.5kW – EMC filters are external but plug-in, so no additional cabling is required. Drives can be horizontally mounted for smaller compartments if required.
Frame C to E 11-160kW – EMC and harmonics choke built into the unit, so most compact size with no extra items to fit or cable.
Frame G1 and G2 200-500kW– New high power design, mounted on wheels for easy manual handling. Removable cabling boxes ensure power cables are fitted only once.
