Omron inverter drives at new European Automation Centre

Omron Industrial Automation has recently opened a new European Automation Centre (ATC) in Barcelona, Spain, to provide specialist support for its inverter drives and other automation products.

The facility includes laboratories for developing driving programming software, testing servo applications, developing robot control software, testing network configurations, and setting up individual customer tests in specific market sectors, such as inverters for lift control.

The centre features a demonstration area including a ‘Sysmac wall’, which combines all the product ranges within the Sysmac platform into a working demonstration that customers can use for proof of concept and to test new ideas.

The Automation Centre is to ensure high levels of technical and application support for SYSMAC platform and supporting devices. The fields of expertise of the ATC include networking, software, safety, advanced motion control, robotics and CNC. The ATC has engineers specialising in markets such as packaging, textiles and plastics.

From here Omron’s engineers will work both on customer projects and on internal developments based on the Sysmac machine automation platform.  There is also a 20-strong team of software developers and a group devising kinematic algorithms for delta robots.

The ATC has more than 50 employees, and joins similar centres in Japan, China and the USA.  Omron Europe now has more than 700 field and sales engineers in 19 countries to add value to machine builders in terms of advanced and integrated machine control.
