Mitsubishi Electric UK has introduced an energy module for the MELSEC-Q series PLCs.  The QE81WH energy measuring module can be slotted directly into a MELSEC-Q series Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) I/O rack to enable simple measurement of various energy data. Up to 64 local or remote units may be installed depending on the Q Series processor used.

The QE81WH module is compatible with three-phase, four wire systems. The benefits of the module include: only a small amount of space is required as they plug directly onto the Q rack; minimal set up and wiring; energy management and measurement is greatly simplified; no need for extra metering.

The modules will measure Current; Current demand; Voltage; Power; Demand power; Power factor; Frequency; kVA; kVAr; kW; kWh hours.  By directly slotting into the PLC a range of energy information is made available simply to the monitoring systems and can also provide alarms.

Achieves addition of measuring instrument without any additional space

By mounting the energy measuring module onto the open slot of the base unit, measuring instrument can be added without changing the layout in the control panel.

Offers wire savings and engineering workload reductions

With a communication unit, communication cable and creation of a communication program are no longer needed; cost reductions can be realised by wire savings and engineering workload reductions

Allows for detailed power measurement at high speed (250ms)

Allows for easy specific energy consumption*1 management by matching the “production information” of the CPU unit with the “energy information” of the energy measuring module. Since measured data is automatically collected in a buffer memory at 250ms, detailed specific energy consumption management is also available.

Simplifies construction of a “visualization” system

Allows for easy graphic display of specific energy consumption with a graphic operation terminal (GOT) installed on the control panel at the manufacturing site. Combination with the high-speed data logger module (QD81DL96) allows specific energy consumption analysis to be easily performed with a PC.
