The Mitsubishi L Series PLC combines the power of the high performance iQ PLC platform with the compact dimensions of the FX Series in a modular rack-free PLC systems aimed at the machine builder market.

The fast CPU has a processing speed of 0.9ns per instruction and 24 I/O on board; additional I/O is simply snapped into place.  Also onboard are: a two-channel high speed counter; two axes of positioning; pulse catch and interrupt functions, Ethernet connectivity and built-in data logging.

The built-in positioning function has a start time of thirty microseconds, with a maximum high-speed output of 200k pulses per second and features such as S-curve acceleration and deceleration for complex machine positioning applications,

The smart built-in data logging function provides a simple means of collating OEE (overall equipment effectiveness) data, energy monitoring, sequencing and production traceability, An SD memory card slot enables this data to be stored, along with CPU programs and parameters.

The Ethernet port provides a simple interface to the enterprise level, seamless peer-to-peer communications and direct connectivity to other devices such as HMIs, Logged data can also be retrieved via this port using FTP commands. In addition, a 16character by 4-line display provides convenient monitoring and easy access to diagnostic information both for the CPU and any connected I/O modules, without the need to connect to a PC.

The CPU can accommodate multiple motion modules, with capabilities including a cam function, phase compensation, mark detection and 600 points of user-defined positioning data. The temperature control modules offer functions such as heating/cooling control, peak current suppression, self-tuning, simultaneous temperature rise, selectable sampling cycle and a temperature input mode.

IEC 61131-3 compliant function blocks allow selections of commonly used code to be easily reused and shared among projects. A simulation function built into GX Works2 enables offline debugging without access to physical hardware. The software also provides advanced PLC diagnostics.

L Series compatibility with both FX and iQ platforms enables easy migration of projects from the FX, through L series to the iQ platform, depending on the machine complexity and with the minimum of engineering effort.
