New ACS880 from ABB UK features common user interface

The ACS880 range is the first low voltage AC drive to use ABB’s new common architecture that features the same control panel, harmonised parameters and functions, universal accessories and engineering tools. The architecture brings faster commissioning, minimal operator training and a familiarity across all future ABB drives.

New control panel

The high resolution keypad brings a new level of usability to the drives. The keypad has been designed to ensure maximum usability and intuitive use. It features A high definition display visible in any control room. The display supports graphics and icons to help the user navigate, and the innovative views, transitions and screen will be very familiar smartphone users.  The keypad also supports text editing to allow users to re-name fault messages to match plant specific actions.

Removable memory unit

The memory unit stores the complete parameter and firmware set for the drive. In the event of a problem, downtime is reduced by moving the drive’s memory unit to a new drive.  This transfers the complete drive set-up without the need for re-commissioning.

Fieldbus

The ACS800 supports an extensive list of fieldbus modules for connectivity to industrial networks. These modules are common with other drives within the ABB drives range.

Safety module, FSO-11

The SIL3 rated TUV approved safety module fits within the drive to offer drive specific safety functions. Safely Limited Speed (SLS), Safe Maximum Speed (SMS), Safe Stop Emergency (SSE), Safe Stop 1 (SS1) / stop category 1 and Safe Brake Control (SBC) are realised with no encoder feedback.

Drive Composer PC tool

Drive Composer is the new PC tool for the ACS880 family. The PC tools come in two variants: the basic version is a free of charge point to point tool and allows simple parameter editing and storage, as well as monitoring and commissioning support; the second variant also has animated control diagrams and extended commissioning, monitoring and diagnostic support, and the ability to program the safety functions. The Drive Composer Pro additionally also allows the user to connect to multiple drives either over “panel bus” where the keypad port is used, or over Ethernet.

I/O and control connections

The ACS880 drive family uses the same control card, keypad and software structure throughout its entire range. The ACS880 uses macros to configure its I/O. The macros pre-define the I/O functionality to comply with popular industrial configurations. It is also possible to configure the I/O manually to any function required.
