Schneider Electric UK Magelis HMI range review Part 2

Schneider XBT GC HMI controller

In the high performance line, the Schneider Electric Magelis XBT GC HMI controller combines a human machine interface (HMI) with control system (PLC) functionality and providing flexibility to adapt machines to customers’ specific needs, without prolonging development or sacrificing performance or functionality.

With their fast multitasking processors, all the HMI controllers combine HMI and control functions and share the same screen and communication features and dimensions. The internal memory can be freely used by both the HMI function and the control function. Processing is split 75% on the HMI and 25% on the control. The processing can be configured for 3 tasks, including 1 master task. The XBTGC HMI controllers also share the same I/O modules, and the same peripherals on the CANopen bus as the Modicon M238 logic controller.

Using the XBT GC HMI controller for integrated control offers the control panel builder benefits over conventional solutions.  These include smaller panel sizes; fewer spares and inventory parts; faster and simplified programming; eliminate the need for a PLC, and simplifying or even eliminating cabling, which together provide a 15% cost saving according to Schneider Electric UK.

The Magelis XBT GC streamlines machine design by utilising Schneider Electric’s flexible machine control solution that embeds intelligence in four key hardware platforms (logic, drive, motion, and HMI) along with their SoMachine software.

Product Range

The XBT GCs model range comprises includes six touch screen terminals, and depending on the model:

– 3.8″ monochrome screen, 12 integrated inputs/6 integrated outputs (sink or source)

-5.7″ monochrome or colour screen, 16 integrated inputs/16 integrated outputs (sink or source)

– A wide choice of communication interfaces: USB port, serial link, Ethernet and CANopen

In addition, Magelis XBTGC HMI controllers enable management of integrated digital and analogue I/O;  four high speed counter (HSC) inputs,100 kHz 1 channel or 50 kHz 2 channel, and four pulse train fast outputs, PTO/PWM 65 kHz
