Mitsubishi guarantees future supplies

To guarantee future supplies Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will build a new 6.6 billion Yen (£55m) production facility for factory automation products at the company’s Nagoya Works, in Japan.

The new facility will enable increased production of programmable controllers, as well as enhancing the production capacity for key components in the company’s drives control equipment manufactured around the world.

The facility will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance product competitiveness, and the energy management systems will utilise Mitsubishi’s own  FA total solution ‘e&eco-F@ctory’.  Other energy saving measures including extensive use LED lighting and a 50 kilowatt roof mounted photo-voltaic system.

In response to demand for stable product supplies following the Great East Japan Earthquake, the new building will feature a seismic isolation structure to ensure business continuity in the event of a large earthquake.

Recent labour shortages, the rise in wages and a demand for high-quality products have rapidly led to increased factory automation. To meet the demand from the expanding global market for automation equipment, Mitsubishi Electric is currently expanding its production in China, India and other countries, as well as strengthening its manufacturing base in Japan.

Nagoya Works is the company’s principal facility for automation equipment production and expanding its capacity will ensure supplies of key parts to Mitsubishi Electric’s factory automation lines worldwide. The new production facility will occupy a 5,000 square meter site within the existing Mitsubishi Electric works in Nagoya.  The six floored building will have a floor space of around 26,000 square meters.

The facility is expected to start operations in January 2014, and will play a key role in meeting the growing global demand created by the acceleration of factory automation, especially in China and other Asian countries. Mitsubishi Electric will target consolidated annual sales of 600 billion Yen (£4.7bn) from its factory automation systems business by March 2016.
